Personally I prefer Firefox with the NoScript extension (among others).

I also prefer firefox with no script. IE is getting better but it's a bit like Pro evolution soccer and Fifa. Pro evo kicks fifa in the ass so fifa becomes more like pro evo thus FF is better than IE, IE is becoming more like firefox 8)

I read that ie is more serceptable to bad things like adware, malware and the such like...is this true??

Also if i did start using firefox would i leave ie on the pc and just not use it or what??

As you can tell by this post and all my others, I am not a techy person at all.

IE is supposed to have more holes in it, how true that is I don't know.

When you download firefox you just set it as you main browser. So that will leave you the option to delete the IE shortcut.

There are some sites which need IE in order to function properly, so it is best to use it as a secondary browser to your preferred one.. Firefox, Opera, Safari or whatever.

IE has had a disastrous history as far as being targeted by malware sites. I have seen computers with IE7 suffering the same problems, so i still don't trust it as my main browser.

The best way to avoid malware is to employ safe surfing techniques and avoid *untrusted* web sites.

    I have downloaded firefox 3.

How do i set it as my main browser??

I have taken a look at tools> options> privacy and security....are there any things that i should make sure are ticked??

Something i have noticed is that my AVG anti virus tool bar isnt on firefox...should it be as it is on IE??

Although its debatable that Firefox is a more secure browser than IE your browsing habits can cause your PC to be infected with malware etc regardless of what browser you are using.

Don’t visit dodgy websites and you should be fine. 8)

I assume you have to make Firefox the default app for files with *.html as the file extension.
