Well if you see my sig I don't have any certs yet :) but I came here to get advice and hopefully be able to advise or atleast give an opinion thats what a forum is for. So don't be intimidated by people who have years of experience and lots of certs as has been said they are on here to help people like us learn which is a good thing:)

I value these peoples experience as I know when I ask a question they won't be telling me something that isn't correct.

hmm, let me count the ways.....

To start with a great ethos to studying and the virtually unlimited supply of help - at least someone has a niche that they can comment on. Also, there are those whose niche is to actually ask the questions that maybe we ourselves don't need to ask but actually enjoy listening to the answer - and sometimes learning from it also.

The amount of knowledge a group of people can have is enourmous and I would have thought it very hard to find one person who knew everything on here, let alone a few people to be able to get a good all-round opinion on something.

Some forums or newsgroups can either be overrun with cliques that are irrelevant to the subject area they are supposedly representing or they are full of lots of questions but very few answers.

I enjoy the mix of people, those who are fresh out of school/college/uni, 1st-liners/sys-admins/networkers, new-uns/old-uns, certificate monkeys/newbies, graduates/non-graduates, technical/non-technical.....so many different people and "groups", and even male/female! :)

I suppose also, my enthusiasm for IT. If I can see others being excited by it, I feel at home. One particular photography forum, which I visit but don't post as much, is exactly the same - I feel at home.

So it seems everyone is of the same opinion as to why they stick around, To give and get advice and also to learn. This is probably why CF works so much better than other forums, I hope to be a member for years to come if I'm allowed to stay as I'm sure I'll need future help when I do other certs but hopefully as my knowledge increases so will my power to advise to a greater capacity.8)

    That would be 2 X 0 = 0.
Reminds me of a comic. The teacher rants out on a student: "You, you are a big zero, a nothing. I am 1000 times better than you!..."
    Student: "1000 X 0 = ...."

You might get the try Google response here to. We are not here to do the homework for students, but if someone has a problem in understanding a topic, (s)he will surely get a hint or two in the right direction. It is not allways possible to answer a question, specifically with hardware problems.

well my reasons or opinions for hanging around is:-

CF is a place where you can learn about IT, keep upto date with the technology, meet people who are in the same boat!

Let's face it there are loads of IT forums out there! But CF stands out of the crowd because it has a warm friendly community here. People who give their time freely not just to talk about IT but life experiences as well. I find you can use CF as a research tool but by being apart of the community here you can get so much more out of it!:biggrin

I have made a lot of friends through this forum and where I can I post useful advice to people who are in the exact situation I was in!

I do sometimes wonder why people don't sign up for the premium membership after all it's only £2 per month?
You do get someting for your money not just your name in green and at the end of the day CF has saved people time and time again from making huge mistakes financially in life and pointing them in the right direction.

I don't know how much it costs to run a forum or web hosting but a forum this big can't be cheap??

I also hang around to catch up on peoples news, read the jokes and the off beat comments made by people.:biggrin

I originally came to CF in 2005 looking for advice which I received and I kinda liked the place and hung around. Unfortunately, for one reason or another I didn’t have the time to post as often I would have liked, but kept checking in to see how things were going.

Now, with things finally starting to settle down I have more time to post and ultimately want to help people who need that little bit of encouragement to take the first step towards a career in IT. 7 years ago, I too took that first giant step and though it was (very)rocky at times I came out the other end and got the career in IT that I’d always wanted.

I just love the place, plain and simple. I originally came here for advice for my A+, but then i realised there was more than that, nobody judged me by my experience, and ive made some crackin friends along the way from the meets, and they arent casual friends, they are people i wanna keep in contact for life. And i cant wait to meet more of you lot in the Toon lol :)

At the moment I'm tending to drift in and out, spending a lot of time time hunting and trying to get out of the flat a lot more.

I'm still in second thoughts whether to try and continue in trying to break into IT in a full time basis, even though I am still looking for help desk positions.

I have quite a few plans for this year that are not IT related, as always my plans are flexible and are always subject to change.

Actually Mate you already do your fair share of supporting CF:rocks

The one thing I realy like about the membership is you don't get to see those adverts on the forums. drives me up the wall, adverts on the radio, the TV, Papers, email. I was watching LOST on sky and within 5 minutes into the episode the adverst came on:x Hacks me off!8)
