Since this is the busiest IT certification forum I frequent, I thought I'd try to start up a Werewolf game. In case you haven't heard of it, here's how it goes:

Everyone who plays is a Villager. But living amongst the Villagers are several Werewolves! Who can you trust? Who amongst you is a Werewolf? :ohmy

The Villagers win by killing all the Werewolves.
The Werewolves win when there are as many Werewolves as Villagers... then, it's dinner time!

Every night, the Werewolves will secretly decide on a Villager to kill that night. If the Werewolves cannot agree on a victim, nobody is killed that night.

Every day, the surviving Villagers will discuss amongst themselves who they believe might be a Werewolf and vote to either kill or save them. The first person to be twice accused should explain their innocence while the votes are publicly cast. If a majority is reached, the accused will be killed. Up to three people can be tried per day until one is found guilty; if no majority is reached, the day will end without anyone being killed.

On the first day, the villagers will elect a Sheriff; this honor cannot be refused. Once elected, the Sheriff's vote counts as two votes. If the Sheriff is killed, he names his successor with his dying breath.

There are a few special villager roles (randomly assigned) that should remain hidden:
    • Seer/Fortuneteller: Each night, the Seer can determine whether one player is a Villager or a Werewolf. This sounds like a great role... but how can you tell the rest of the Villagers whether someone is innocent or guilty without making yourself a target for the werewolves?
    • Hunter: When the Hunter is killed (either by Werewolves or Villagers), he can immediately retaliate by killing a player of his choice.
    • Matchmaker/Cupid: On the first day, the Matchmaker will secretly select two players who will fall madly in love with one another. If one of the lovers dies, the other will die from grief. The Matchmaker can select himself as one of the lovers. A Werewolf and Villager can be in love with one another; if this happens, then they are playing against everyone else - they win by being the last two to survive.
    • Witch/Warlock/Alchemist: The Witch can make two potions: a healing potion and a poison potion. The healing potion will revive a player that has just been killed (either by Werewolves or Villagers). The poison potion will kill the selected player at night. Each potion can be used once per game. The healing potion can be used on the Witch herself.
    • Thief: After the roles have been randomly assigned, two will remain unassigned. On the first day, the Thief can swap his role with one of the two unassigned roles. If both roles are Werewolf roles, the Thief must accept the Werewolf role.

If you want to play, just add your name to the thread. To roleplay your Villager (and it will be much more fun if you do), you might consider using one of the following (any of which could also secretly be the Seer, Hunter, Matchmaker, Witch, Thief, or... a Werewolf!):

    • Storekeeper/Merchant
    • Barkeeper/Innkeeper
    • Woodcutter/Carpenter/Sawyer
    • Bowyer/Fletcher
    • Cartwright
    • Boatwright
    • Blacksmith
    • Leathersmith
    • Tanner
    • Saddler
    • Coppersmith
    • Tinker
    • Potter
    • Stonemason
    • Shoemaker/Cobbler
    • Seamstress/Clothier
    • Butcher
    • Baker
    • Chandler/Candlemaker
    • Miller
    • Priest/Preacher
    • Doctor/Midwife
    • Apothecary
    • Lawyer
    • Teacher
    • Banker
    • Accountant/Clerk
    • Minstrel/Bard
    • Artist
    • Scribe/Printer
    • Barber
    • Farmer
    • Shepherd
    • Fisherman
    • Gardener
    • Undertaker
    • Servant
    • Beggar
    • Stranger/Traveler
    • Town Drunk
    • Village Idiot
    • Hoodlum
    • Prostitute
    • Nanny
...or, come up with your own!

If we get 20 people, there will be the following roles:
    • 4 Werewolves
    • 13 "normal" Villagers
    • 1 Seer
    • 1 Hunter
    • 1 Matchmaker
    • 1 Witch
    • 1 Thief
...with two of the above roles being unassigned (that only the Thief will know).

Unfortunately, you can't kill me. I'm the Moderator. 8) All secret actions by the Werewolves, Seer, Matchmaker, Witch, and Thief should be sent to me via PM.

Please do not share your role via external methods (PM, e-mail, voice) with anyone. Not that they will believe you anyway... you could be trying to trick them into believing you are something you're not. :disguise

So... are you in? If so, tell us a little about your Villager! :biggrin

    Current players:
    1. Father Jim (jk2447)
    2. Undertaker Igor (nugget)
    3. Woodcutter Giddy (GiddyG)
    4. Estate Agent Eric (ericrollo)

Yes, you say what kind of villager you are (Teacher/Barkeep/Blacksmith). But your role (Werewolf/Villager/Seer) is secretly and randomly assigned to you. And to be Sheriff, you must be elected by the Villagers. :)

Thanks, Father Jim. Certainly a Priest wouldn't be a Werewolf... would he?

Dunno if they had estate agents back then... perhaps they did. But in any case, if you want to be one, go right ahead! :)

Let me see... you all know me, or you should do if you live in my village. I'm your friendly neighbourhood woodcutter. See those frames (no, the ones on your house not your head)? Well... I cut the trees to make them. I shaped the wood to fit them together. I crafted the pegs to pin them.

I've been living round these parts for nigh on 50 years and I tell you something... in those woods, at dead of night, you hear sounds... pitiful sounds. Moans... cries... you know what it is don't you? No! Don't say their name! A curse to us all and worse be to you if you utter it. But you know who or what I speak of. Don't pretend you don't.

I've seen them... seen their shadows at least. I know who they are, and what they become. Careful now... watch your back.

I travelled from Rome to spread the good lords word over 20 years ago now and settled is this once quiet village. Sadly I conduct more and more funerals and my flock is in decline....
