    Hi All,

hope this is in the right forum:eek:

Does anyone know of a tutorial on the web covering the very basics and upwards of VPN? Would like to get to learn about it.

Do you have access to a Windows 2003 server? If so you can use RRAS to create VPNs. 8)

Kat the other links may be a tad confusing.

    Try reading this first..

Basically, a VPN is a private network that uses a public network (usually the Internet) to connect remote sites or users together. Instead of using a dedicated, real-world connection such as leased line, a VPN uses "virtual" connections routed through the Internet from the company's private network to the remote site or employee. In this article, you will gain a fundamental understanding of VPNs, and learn about basic VPN components, technologies, tunneling and security.

One thing to remember with VPN's - the extra overhead in each packet (especially if using GRE+IPSec) can cause fragmentation. Make sure to check the MTU's of the devices/hosts as fragmentation can cause various problems, such as being able to ping hosts through the VPN but not able to sync servers across the same VPN.
