Sorry if this is too simple a question fellas, but what is the difference between VMWare, Virtual PC and Virtual Box

That's true... but there are slightly more difference than that!

In reality, there are so many different arenas of virtualisation now that it can be difficult to keep pace with them all. In reality, the biggest difference is between the 'software' based virtualisation offerings and the bare-metal hypervisors. Usually you'll find the bare-metal (i.e. the base virtualisation platform handles all the virtualisation duties, rather than you installing a 'traditional' O/S and running virtualised VMs on that) hypervisor is the more robust, enterprise-level architecture. This would include VMWare's ESX/vSphere line. The virtualisation-on-top-of-an-OS is used generally in smaller departments, or for testing (though I ran our colo at work on it for over a year). This would include VMWare Server/VMWare Workstation.
