    Then again...

...perhaps I don't have to settle for second place after all.

    WINNER!

    LOL - Vista?

    Pants to Vista.

Got a new box at the weekend - look at the specs ringed in red - Vista was creaming its pants when I took delivery of the machine and fired it up first time round. (Un)fortunately it lasted about 75 seconds before I whipped out my 2K3 Server iso and vaped it. Shame really - although not really, is Vista is undoubtedly a steaming pile of elephant's poo.

Not sure what the score would have been - probably about 4.9

What's letting me down is the Disk data transfer rate.

I'm sure I could pick up the 0.1 (to get a 5.9) if I reconfigure the disks to RAID 0 instead of RAID 1.

You will learn to love Vista.. get it installed :tongue :)

Have you enabled disk write caching? It might give you that extra 0.1. Have a look at the drive properties in device manager.

Actually, the "steaming" feature is available only with 2GB or more of memory and a DirectX 9-capable video card. :p

It's a lot to spend for that extra 0.1 of Vista scores! Nugget could RAID0 his drives, that would easily do the trick. :)

Been there, seen that, got the 'steaming pile of elephant's poo' t-shirt...

I was forced into it at work - installed it and run it every day, but still hate it.

If they do that then I will definitely need better disks.

I'll check tonight if the write caching is enabled.

My new upgrades have arrived and my score is now up a bit. :)

    Core 2 Quad Q9450 2.66Ghz (@ 3.2Ghz), 1Tb Samsung F1 HDD, 8GB Corsair DDR2 XMS2 DHX Ram.

    Seems to be running well.

I already am, like I said in my post it's a 2.66Ghz chip and I'm running it at 3.2Ghz. Didn't have to up the vcore it's running nice and stable and also very cool, idle's in the mid 20's and under full load it hits 40. I may push it a bit further soon. :)

Not really, Vista when idling consumes all the power of the CPU and RAM. :)

It's gonna be a cool setup for virtualisation which is the main reason for all that memory and the quad core. Should be fairly handy when it comes to games as well. :)
