    Ken,

For the Virtual PC 2007, you might want to link to this as it contains MS VP 2002 SP1 as well.

    It includes support for:

    Certifications: CCA | CCENT | CCNA | CCNA:S | HP APC | HP ASE | ITILv3 | MCP | MCDST | MCITP: EA | MCTS:Vista | MCTS:Exch '07 | MCSA 2003 | MCSA:M 2003 | MCSA 2008 | MCSE | VCP5-DT | VCP4-DCV | VCP5-DCV | VCAP5-DCA | VCAP5-DCD | VMTSP | VTSP 4 | VTSP 5

I'll add to this - if you;re looking for 'real' virtualisation from VMWare (i.e. bare-metal hypervisor) they have a 60 day free trial of VI (which includes ESX Server and Virtual Center) here

If you want to run this properly and play with all the big benefits of ESX (Vmotion, DRS, HA etc) then you'll need shared storage. There are various solutions available to you - including running something like the Virtual SAN appliance from Xtravirt or, if you can find it, EMC's Celerra simulator - which installs as an ovf and is available from a few places on the net (although nowhere 'officially' from EMC). However, my personal favourite is to use an old box and run OpenFiler 2.3 on it

Finally, for anyone looking seriously at building an ESX test lab at home, this blog post from KiwiSi (techhead.co.uk) is the Rosetta Stone to use as a reference.

Great information Thanks for sharing. The host operating system and physical hardware should be considered as important as the most important virtual machine/guest operating system on it.
