I am looking for an adaptor for USB to serial so I can use my netbook for configuring switches. I have had a good look round and found a few but by the look of it, not just anyone will do as it wont do certain stuff. Can anyone recommend one? One that works under Linux would be ideal.

So will pretty much anyone do then and I don't need to worry about some of these reports of some not doing certain things? I think it was something to do with break codes or something.
    Thanks for replying.

We bought this one. So far we haven't had any problems with it (so far mind you), we did also buy the 1st gen versions and they would randomly crash our laptops (at my last place of work).

Hi, my cheap eBay one has worked fine but I suppose for 2 quid or what ever it is, its no biggy if its not the best cable. I have used mine to connect to a few pieces of cisco kit with no problems

Thanks I have ordered one of the cheap ones. Like you say at less than £2 delivered it won't be the end of the world if it doesn't work out ;)

I've had a Belkin USB-to-serial adapter that's worked great over the years. Highly recommended.
