upgrading IOS on a switch

    Does this have to be done in steps or can one just downlaod the lastest version from Cisco and whack it on

    I think it depends what version of ios you are after.

    some require a pica account, which is linked to a an employer, eg I work for a pharma company and have pica account thru them, with which i can download whatever i need.

    If you mean how do you download and upgrade ios;
    step 1 download from cisco website to your pc
    step 2 ftp ar tftp from your pc to cisco device via ethernet port
