    Hi All,

I have a machine running windows vista home premium, I am considering upgrading to windows 7 home premium. I have a few questions, I am aware there is the option of buying an upgrade or a new installtion copy of windows seven, as i have vista currently running i was planning on buying the upgrade version (saving me money) a few questions though................. if i run an upgrade on top of vista ( instead of a fresh install of 7) will my programmes remain installed? will the desktop icons and user settings transfer ok? im guessing the data on my hdd's will remain ?

    thanks all

edit******* also would it be possible to upgrade from vista home premium to windows 7 ultimate if i had the full non upgrade dvd?

You just run the upgrade installation and transfer and setting wizard to promote all your files etc to Windows 7.

If you want to go to Ultimate using the full normal installation version then you can if: you format your hard drive after backing up all your stuff and if you have the system requirements to do so.

download the Windows 7 upgrade advisor and see if you do.

I would also have a look at PCMover from Laplink. Amazing piece of software, I got it last year to migrate my wifes laptop to a shuttle. It worked an absolute treat.
