It's not nothing - you unfairly compared what I do on the forums with what a known forum spammer does. :dry

Well, at least you're smiling this morning.

I prefer Self Test and Transcender - both of course owned by Kaplan IT.

If I dont know or dont like them I wont comment - as this is not productive.

Before Self test I used and another supplier that left me disappointed - basically a case of sales blurb exceeding the products capabilities.

The best products are the ones that handle the core exams well ...plus offer excellent support for the elective exams...IMHO

Actually, McAfee bought SiteAdvisor. SiteAdvisor has nothing to do with viruses, except to make sure that the site being rated does not bundle spyware or viruses with their downloads. They also look at whether the site spams you if you sign up there, and checks what other sites the rated site links to. Very handy tool!

Thank you Bluerinse! I was trying to remember the name of the other test vendor that is approved by Microsoft. It is Self-Test and MeasureUp! I like MeasureUp because they are one of the few test prep companies that offer test prep for the MOS tests.

There are dozens of test prep companies out there, I think the safest thing is to do as Bluerinse suggested, and stick with those that have a known good reputation. :biggrin

So... they have nothing to do with viruses, but they're checking the site for viruses? That's what I said... they're checking for viruses. :D

Primarily they are checking for any malware, but the primary focus was spam and links to bad sites. And those of us who are individual users can add comments too. 8)

Indeed! I have been using this free service since before it was bought by McAfee. I was afraid that McAfee would either charge for it or mess it up, but so far, it still is a good service. It also shows its ratings in Google searches, so you can avoid dangerous sites that show up. :biggrin

I've just finished reading this thread in connection to UCHEEKYMONKEY's thread at TU. Talk about hijacking a thread. Poor Lee. She asks an innocent question and the thread takes a dive off the deep end. I'm glad to see it ended on a civil note. I have to say that about halfway through, I would have been sorely tempted to lock the thread and be done with it. I'm glad I didn't come across it while it was still "active" (as in live volcano).

I want to make one statement about BBM's forum name. Back in the day when he was working for Transcender, his forum name reflected his employment. I don't doubt that it was a form of advertising but no one seemed to object on the various forums he visited. In fact, it was an asset to many of the other members to be able to talk to someone on the "inside" and find out a little more about the company and its products.

I'm not taking sides here but just trying to set the record straight. Threads like this are rare on CF but understandable. In the age of text communication, we have no other cues to modify the "black-and-whiteness" of the message. I read a statistic that about 90 to 95% of all communication is not verbal. It is very easy for us to misunderstand and miscommunicate (I suppose that's why emoticons were created, though they are not enough).

I know I haven't been doing any "moderating" lately. The schedule and fatigue just don't permit it. I hope to be able to take my role here and at TU more to heart again and I'm not critisizing anyone by my comments here. I do believe that it is possible to disagree without personalizing conflict. CF is a very good forum for that. Let's keep up the good work, folks. Pax.

Thanks, Trip. At the time, the choice of the Transcender name on my username was my own. I wasn't asked by Transcender to do it, nor was I compensated for it. Mitzs was actually the one who invited me to Cramsession to join the forum in the absence of Spike, since people were asking about him and about Transcender. Thus, I felt it was appropriate to choose my username to reflect why I was called there.

Nowadays, the situation has changed somewhat. I do (or, rather, will in the future) benefit directly from my company name being part of my username. However, that said, hopefully my contributions to the forums stand on their own merit and, thus, justify to a degree the staff allowing me to use my chosen username. If I had abused the privilege in the past, I certainly wouldn't be allowed to use this username in the present. I will continue to use the same level of discretion as I have in the past.

    Thanks.

No, actually, none of us had heard from spike in a while at cs and we all began to worry when he didn't respond to anyone emails. Q, one of the admins from cs asked me if I could call Transcender and check on him. Since we both were in the same state and it wouldn't cost me a an arm and leg like it would with Q calling out of canada. Somehow I ended up talking to you and you told me spike had been let go. Now that was a shock to me. Anyway we ended up talking about what spike had been doing and you said you had never been there and might come and check it out. I said I thought it would be a good idea for both cs and users that don't know about Transcender. And it was. And I still had to get a nashville phone book and start calling people with his last name to track that man down! Thank god I only had to call a couple when I got spikes wife on the line. They are great people and I still miss him dearly.

Oh man, spike was the face of TS to me back then. To a lot us back then. I remember the first time I met him was in a thread where he was blowing up some dumper from a tank mortar.:biggrin Now how can you not love a guy like that. Mary and I actually got a chance to meet him when we visited nashville for a weekend. We had lunch with him. And it was great. The man gives huges bear hugs. Thought he was going to crack my rib for a second but I loved it. He is a very funny man in person too. Have you in tears double over laughing.

Spike was indeed the face of Transceder back then! He was the ultimate sophisticated geek we all wanted to be. He was a great and generous man, and it broke my heart when they let him go, and replaced him with the generic plastic model people in the ads. I saw one of the same models in the same pose in an ad for a dating service.

The people who made that company great are gone now, and it is a shame. Transcender was a class act with class people, and the new owner did not keep it that way. :(

    Techs need dates too... :hb

I agree... I didn't like the plastic models either. I did pass your feedback to them, like I said I would. The marketing department ignored me, as usual. Wasn't the first time... wasn't the last time.

When I left, there were probably only 4 people left from the "old" Transcender. I was the last of the Transcender writers to leave.
