Well i went ahead and joined in teh Twits.. Twitters.. Twitterers????????

I've got Arro, Pheo and Mitzs on mien and no one else yet, and i'm only really posting nonsense. looking at the otehrs though, especially Mitzs ones, there seem to be some really useful posts or insightful ones anyway. So i was just wondering, what exactly is teh point of Twitter? I mean, i have email, Messenger and facebook to keep in contact with friends etc, so do i really need to twit? Is anyone really interested that i've been painting figures yesterday?
Is it particularly useful or is it just like what happened when blogging got popular, people did it and just filled blogs up with loads of Krap?

Depends what you need to get out of it.

For me, none of the people I know on Twitter use any other forms of social networking (with the exception of Pheo and Facebook, but he rarely updates his profile, and I'm considering Facebook Suicide myself).

The other means is that, if you Twitter with people in a group (ie, CF) and you need to let that group know something (ie, I'm coming to the gathering but I'm going to be late, one of you buggers had still better buy me a beer) then you can let people know en masse without having to ring *everyone* or text *everyone* just to know your message got through.

Yeah but liek all other social networking sites, it only lets those who are signed up and you allow to knwo what your doing. So if you wanted to tell CF that you cant make the meet or are going to be late, only the ones using twitter would know.

Now i havent found out how to do this by mobile yet, but it looks like i just txt to an international number and that updates my twitter log? So i have to pay to do this, thats ok, but what about recieving from others? I havent had and txts from twitter yet so assume it dosent work liek that?

And it just seems another method for inane chat (see my Twits), so if i want to do that with friends, surley Messenger is easier?

How many ways do we need to communicate? I don't use Twitter or Facebook. Between real life contacts, phone calls, emails, and discussion boards, I'm pretty maxed out. Thought about a blog (and I haven't ruled it out), but when would I have time? I already neglect my personal website, though I do keep my congregation's website current.

Twitters power is that it opens up once closed 'conversations' to more eyes Mitz can answer a question to one of her PS group, and I can see it, if it interests me I can get involved

I compare it like this, if IM is your one to one meeting with the boss, Twitter is chatting with your mates down the pub, your open, in public, others can hear and interact

Searching twitter also has power, depending on the client you can have a search term for example, I use tweet deck and have four search terms at the moment, VMWare, Hyper-V, Boise and VMWorld (a temporary one) anything posted to twitter with these words in it shows up in its own column on tweet deck, allowing me to take part in vmware and hyper-v conversations in real time, even if I am just the receiver and not the sender

    Heres a small screen shot :) http://twitpic.com/eq0q

Twitter is what you make of it, is there a point? oh yes, but you have to have your own point

Joined earlier but haven't really done much with it yet either...looks like you make of it what you want to.
Can see why it would be useful.

Well installed it, and it buggered up my firefox. When i re-started FF it would always automatically minimise, had to use task manager to shut it down. So uninstalled FF and re-installed. Now i've lost all my passwords ect. Ah well. Now i dont even have my link to twitter lol.

Twitter to me is more then just a social thing. It is an exacellent networking tool. You guys are geek think resources guys! I started out I knew Ryan and my girl here Arro. The rest are people I found that are in some way connected with Photoshop and Adobe. I've met some great people that are willing to mentor and help me when I need it and I pitch in where I can. Like I said its a great networking tool and I have found so many contacts from across the world that just wouldn't be possable on sites like this. Theres are people that I have something in common with and that I have learned alot from. I even have followers that I have no idea who they are but found me though mutual contacts we share. Then they are your friends on there. I can keep up with ryan because he post about his schooling on there. And I get so tickled reading how excited he gets over our american football. In some ways twitter can be more personal then what you find on sites. And yes twizz I enjoyed reading about your blue fingers yesterday. I would have never knew you did that otherwise. :)

Twizzle, I don't use the mobile myself so I can't help you there. However, twitter will look though your email contacts and check to see if anyone you know is on twitter and you can add friends that way. You can search for stuff your intersted in too. Then you find someone that has stuff you like follow them and then go though their contacts. I've found most people contacts have something in common. There are MS, Cisco, and other people on there you just have to find them.

How do i search fro stuff i'm interested in? all i can see is a search for people, by name or email addresses.

I doubt i'll keep it up, as i already use IM and facebook plus the forums here and else where. To do Twitter regularly as well, might just be too much. Mind you, it also would depend on what net acces i'm allowed at this new job.

Click on the menu button that says find people. When that page comes up you will see 3 tabs, invite from other networks, invite by email, and search. Click the search tab.

Doh! yeah i found it eventually, thanks Mitzsy hun...........

To me though, it still seems liek a cut down version of Facebook, allows you to chat to friends but with out all the clutter of pics, profiles, walls and the usless apps that are tacked onto facebook.
