The CCNA has been on my radar for some time now, but I've always held off doing anything serious about it in lieu of other studies (degree, solidifying my helldesk experience by getting MCDST, etc).

I'm giving myself a four month gap from OU courses between October and February, to get a cert or two knocked out. To that end, I have purchased myself some lab kit from eBay (couldn't resist, was a bargain).

I have (and have had) the Press books for ICND1 and ICND2 for some time, so I can start re-reading the theory at leisure.

The kit I have for the lab (so far) is as follows:

    1 x 1900 series 12 port switch
    2 x 2500 series routers
    1 x 2600 series router
    1 x 3640 series router

It's all working, but I'm not going to take a serious look at it until I can... be serious about it. So, October then :)

Will let you all know how it goes. If any of you live near Coventry, hear agonised screams of anguish around winter time, and see a router flying out of a broken window, you'll be able to tell :)

Good luck with that, if you don't mind... How much did you pay for the listed equipment?

lol cheers both, and good luck to you too JK :)

I'm a book hound if truth be told - not only do I have the CCNA books, I have most CCNP books, a CCDA study guide, and at least two CCIE books... I tend to get job lots off eBay. The content is awesome. Currently irrelevant to my career, but awesome nevertheless lol. A lot of them were off a job lot I won for £20 (only bidder) from Kingston on Thames. Well worth the drive - I got around 18 books of differing standards (including Tanenbaum's book on networking, which is quite frankly like a bible).

This particular lot, I was bidding against someone so I have no idea why they didn't fight for it at such a low price. Pick up only, but Birmingham's a nice easy place to find... meh, I'm not going to complain about it!

    So yeah, studying... :)

I'm a terrible nerd mate. In work we have labs stocked full of older Cisco kit, servers etc. When I say older, I mean 1 behind the cutting edge, our place loves wasting money on the latest kit. As I say tho I'm such a nerd I want routers in my house ha ha I'm on eBay now!

    Ah that's a purdy sight.

I'm also glad to see stereotypes aren't dead.

Took the other half with me (so I didn't have to carry everything to the car).

Despite me buying the stuff, all the emails being from me and me handing him the money, he asked if they were for my other half.

    Sigh.

    *thwack*

Keeping an eye on ebay for a bargin switch at the moment.
