this is a question that came up in a practice assingment today and was wondering what you uy and gals might think the problem was.

Steve is having problems with Microsoft Word. Every time he tries to create a new document, it comes up with a document with text already in it. He has tried saving this, then opening a new document, but the same text appears again.

just thought you peeps might be able to confirm or deny what i thought it was.

Sounds to me that he's entered text into the document template and saved it as a template ( .dot ).

AJ is bang on! *normal.dot* is the default template that Word opens every time you start a new document. Hence if you inadvertently save over that template with a document that has text in it, every new document will have the same text.

You are always right mate. I just wanted to add a bit, so the guys focused on your answer, rather than keep on speculating :biggrin I didn't mean to sound patronising
