Despite the saying that "RAM is cheap", I thought it was kind of pricey. Cost close to $100 US Dollars per stick of 512 MB DDR SDRAM at 400 MHz. Your virtual machines need the same resources as a real machine so you have to give it at least the minimum recommended HDD space and RAM that you'd give it on it's own box. That's why a big HDD and lots of RAM is a must.

I ran across this article about EMC buying VMWare. Somehow, I don't think this will help lower the price of VMWare. Maybe it's better to buy on the sooner side.

IT'S HERE! My copy of VMWare Workstation 4.0 arrived yesterday. It came to my work address so I avoided immediately having to explain to "the missus" what it was and such. Got it in the house in my bag and squirreled it away in my closet. When she's got a long work day, I'll install it...but I should probably wait for that other stick of 512 MB RAM before doing so. THEN, it's lab time!

Hey, I thought you didn't believe in gifts at this time, Trip - even it is to yourself

Have fun (I like your "sneaky" style re the Missus. She'll still *know*, though )

Oh heck, yeah. She pays the bills. The charge will show up on the credit card bill and I'll have to remind her how she authorized it and away we'll go. But I'll still have the software. C'mon, RAM. Get here.

If I can't get it off the monitor and into a RAM slot, then "no", I can't use it. Nice try, Gav.

IT CAME! The other stick of 512 MB of RAM. I just put it in and fired up the machine. I had to blink a couple of times before I realized it was registering 1.25 GB of RAM. Yeehaw! Let the games begin.

I opened up the VMWare box yesterday. The manual on this thing is nearly 100 pages long. Guess I'll have to get into some reading before I actually load it up. Pointers, gang?

Sm@rt@$$! I meant "shortcuts". You know how impulsive I am and how hard a time I have deferring gratification.
