I imagine those concerned with barbies are not likely to be thinking about their careers...as i imagine they are about 5.

How dare you! Ethel the toothless moonlighting dinner lady in our cafe said I was quite fetching in a certain light without her contacts when she had a vodka and crystal meth hangover and forgetting to take her dementia medication. . . . . I'll have you know!

No, it's the stereotypes such toys engender that irks me so much. You'd be suprised at the social programming toys can produce. Not "Brave New World" level, but fun to read about nevertheless.

I'd talk more about it, but I've got to go fix a server :biggrin

So - for this piece on 'tech support Barbie', they interviewed a woman who isn't in tech support (a web developer), another woman who isn't in tech support (QA analyst), another woman who isn't in tech support (lecturer) and another woman who isn't in tech support (CIO).

    Awesome.

To me it totally misses the point, if you want girls to go into engineering professions get them :-

    1. Meccano
    2. Lego
    3. Chemistry set
    4. Electronics set
    5. Chess set
    6. Airfix
    etc.

By going on about fashion and dolls you have alreadly created the predisposition that your daughter will become another stripper 'workin her way through college'...
