just wondering if its a good idea to study for both the hardware and software exams side by side or get one done and then start studying the next? i have just got meyers all in one and just gone through a couple of the test questions just to see how much i allready know without studying, i got 64% on the hardware and 56% on OS, so the OS is my week spot.

i think you should work on one exam at a time. Those scores arent *great* you should be in the late 80's early 90's so you need to work on both! Have a good read on what meyer's says is a good study plan - towards the begining of the book and it works like a gem! :biggrin

I read the MM 'all in one' the first time in full. Then I booked my core exam and concentrated on the core exam subjects.I read the book a second time, only this time concentrating on the 'test specific' chapters and booked the OS exam,re-read the OS specific stuff and passed both exams comfortably.

I do think you need to have some knowledge of both subjects to master either one. There are a lot of details to learn and some require the knowledge of both hardware and software to make them fully understandable, hence reding the book through initially.

Hope this helps and good luck with your studying/exams. 8)

just done the clacs for study time in the meyer book, mine worked out to 139 hours, i think i'll read the whole book first and see if i could manage to study both at the same time. ideally i do not want to be too long passing the A+, as i want to try for the N+ after and then start looking at a career change into IT, i'm 40 now so the clock is ticking!.

Hi Paul-o, I would say not to rush the A+. It lays down a lot of fundamentals that will help you with the other certs. Also, you don't want to rush into taking the exam before you're ready as I'm sure failing the first attempt at your first cert would be a real knock to your confidence. Less haste, more speed, as my dear old mum used to say.:D
