Is it just the one disc that its not reading?
I had this problem a while back with one of my software cd-roms, i had uninstalled the hardware and when i tried to re-install it again using the disc it wouldnt recognise the disc at all like it wasnt even in the drive!
I contacted the manufacturer and they asked me to send the disc back to them and they sent me new one which worked fine, apparantly the data on the disc had become currupted!

GBL - have you tried the disk on another PC? it may be the disk? but we need to elminate this by trying it on another drive to see if it reads it! 8)

I got an update but I rolled back past the update and still nothing.

UCM it's not a disc it's the drive.

Now out of interest I put the windows disc in and set the BIOS to boot from the CD then I got into Windows setup. Does this prove somethings got corrupted somewhere and I need to do a reinstall?

last Monday and yesterday, I am thinking somethings got corrupted somewhere along the lines, as I booted into windows setup using the disc from BIOS.

Could be, but what about nero doesn't the program have a test drive utility under the extra menu?

:hhhmmm just having a look under the DVD and digital forums and OMG!:ohmy

They've re-released starwars in another fancy box!

    Star Wars - Prequel Trilogy

Star Wars - The Original Trilogy

Sorry about that! It just annoys me when they keep flooding the market with different covers!:x Bit like Blade Runner! Why can't they release one box set containing all the starwars films?:blink

Anyway, I post a message on the DVD forum for samsung drive and see what comes up!8)

I had a controller error yesterday but this was due to the cable coming out, if it had been damaged then how come I booted into windows setup before?

I also got SIODRV service failed to start, the system cannot find the device specified this was on saturday night, don't remember that happening though.

Edit just to add The Windows disc is being read through windows I just installed IIS but then tried another disc and it it didn't read it

OK - just got a reply from the DVD forums:-

"windows installs an Upperfilter and or a Lowerfilter in the registry for the CDROM, these can be affected if you install a 3rd party soaftware."

    GBL try the following:-

    1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box (Vista) or regedit in the Run box (XP), and then click Regedit in the
Programs list if in Vista or click Open in XP.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. (Vista)
    2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkeys: (must be exact keys)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    CurrentControlSet
    Control
    Class
Once you have clciked Class the click Edit on the menu at the top
Copy and paste the following key inclcuding the curly braces into the Find What box.
    Click "Find Next"
    {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3. Highlight by clicking on "UpperFilter" and "LowerFilter" ONLY - then hit Delete on the keyboard and select Yes
    4. Shutdown and restart the computer
