    Balancing risk v reward.

You're risking £100 in order to save... £60.

You know you're going to get bitten, do the sensible thing, i.e. not wiring money to someone you don't know in Ghana.

Western Union is NOT to be used to buy anything. Its used to send money to people eg your children, relatives, people you know who need money etc. It offers no buyer protection. Wester Union is no where near the same as for example PayPal.

You don't get any protection on PayPal when buying 'virtual' goods either.

If the guy has already given you the voucher code, and you've booked an exam with it, I don't see any problem.

What I was trying to say/put across was that Western Union is not a service to "buy" anything.

I would phone CompTIA/Whoever and verify the code.

If it checks out I would then insist on paying him via something traceable - more traceable than WU anyway. I work in online sales at the moment and we have a fairly strict criterion for sending out goods for this.

You may well pay him/her and then find any sort of defense you have rather shaky if they turn around and say "He never paid me!".

Regardless of how much discount you get, avoid - i'd never pay for anything via western union - i've only ever once used it to send money to a mate in spain, but that's a whole different ball game.

Ditto, take the exam, pass it. and offer to pay him by another means.. If he is honest and wants his money he will find another way to get the cash from you without you giving him your bank details.
