because your external hdd gets a dynamic drive letter assigned everytime it's online, even if it is the same drive letter each time.
go to disk management and assign a static drive letter.

I went in to Disk management and would like to assign the same drive letter as it has now. The problem is it wants me to assign an empty NTFS folder to put it in.
I didn't want to remove the letter and re-assign it incase it caused a problem with the data already on it :dry
