Can any of you gurus out there that have experience with sharepoint services tell me if you can do calender sharing with it? I know that you can integrate office 2003 and also 2000 and Xp (thanks Trip) but the idea I get from all my reading is that it's mainly used for websites.

Any info would be appreciated as I need to find a solution similar to exchange's shared calender but without the cost.

You can share calendars in Outlook using SharePoint, but the functionality is limited. I believe, for instance (although I could be wrong on this) that any changes/additions to calendars have to be made via Sharepoint - Outlook only provides view access.

Any reason why you'd want to do this instead of the 'real' way (i.e. Exchange)?

I imagine it's possible since SharePoint is part of the MS Office suite but in my day-to-day experience with SharePoint and Outlook, shared calendars would be used as zebulebu suggests.

I work with a SharePoint Portal Server top-level site everyday at my "day job" but the issue of calendaring has never come up.

    Thanks for the info guys.

Zeb, I need to do this another way than with exchange as we don't have an exchange server due to the cost and also the work involved in maintaining one. A bit ridiculous really as we will spend a lot of time (and time is money) to find and implement another solution as what it would cost to do it the exchange way.

Pete, thanks for the google calender tip. I'm checking this one out.:D
