I am setting up a Sharepoint 2010 test environment and I have to admit, I don't really like it that much... kind of boring...

I guess a sharepoint career is not really for me... I've learned a lot and I can do an install and all but not my cup of tea if you will.

    Rant over :p

Will you be support end users mate? Will be no escape when they can’t find documents etc. in Sharepoint.

Yup, I pretty much do it all... install, upgrade, support, etc...

I know, we're actually having consultants build all the pages, etc... The actual install, I do myself. I've done a few installations of sharepoint already.

Cool, I have some Sharepoint work in July but a consultant will be doing most of the work.

Are you doing the install of the SharePoint itself including SQL or is that done by the consultant? If you're installing SSRS, do it on the SharePoint server and not the SQL server.. Also Microsoft does not recommend placing SharePoint and SQL on the same server.

I ended up creating some accounts for SharePoint services to use, including SSRS. If you have any questions, let me know and I'll help if I can...

I setup SP 2010 a few weeks back and it installed seemlessly, i had to click a total of around 5 buttons, that bit's fine

it's configuring the bastard afterwards that annoyed me, and like you guys - we left it to the external dude to do the rest, i'd love to have more time to sit down and learn SP, cos we use it a fair bit in work - especially end users

Only on one box mate. This seems like another MS classic as if you install Sharepoint with the defaults it installs SQL Express on the same box. :)

We will be migrating from Sharepoint 2007 and SQL 2005 (on the same box) to the new server. Would have been nice to separate the server roles but £££ is tight as usual!
