I have been thinking about doing the Security+ exam before the end of the year to avoid having to take the exam every three years when CompTIAs new certification policy kicks in.

Anyways I checked online for some exam dates and the exam fee showed up as £190!

Now I’m in two minds to do the exam or not as I would like to have the “set” of A+, Network+ and Security+ but on the other hand its £190 to fork out on the run up to Christmas.

    Thoughts? :blink

    Hi mate,
I'm also thinking of taking the Security+ before the end of the year - if I can fit it in with all the other stuff (OU, work and work projects).

£190 is alot to fork out, but if you wait till after xmas, you will be into the 3 yearly renewal, which will cost more in the long run to keep the sec+ cert.

If you want do do something in life you should.......... especially if it mean recertification if you decide to do it later!
As the old syaing goes........ Its better to regret doing than regret not doing!

I have recently stepped back to pickup N+ and Sec+, just the Sec+ to go now :D

    Cheers guys.

TBH I'll probably do the exam, it’ll be the best thing to do in the long run.

Booking it tomorrow here Sparky, weighed up the recert costs / time etc and it's worth getting getting it before the deadline.

A+ next weekend, Sec+ 4/5 weeks later hopefully.

You'll really enjoy it mate and IMO it completes your CompTIA studies. I agree tho, it is steep but at least you can have it recognised on your Microsoft transcript should you wish to add the :Security to your MCSE (or add toward it). I think your MCSA will be upgraded to :Security with a pass. Good luck, Jim

Do it mate. If you do it now it's a one time cost. If not then as you mentioned, it's the same cost every 3 years (providing you want to keep it current).

Yeah, just had a look at that. I would need the 70-299 as well (as said) and the ISA 2006 exam is going to be retired in March next year. I would have gone for that one but I don't think I would have enough time to get that one done.

Just gonna do it as a final CompTIA exam for my CV. 8)
