sata 2 hdd

    sorry about the caps. this is from a thread in asus forums about
    my peticular mobo a8v_vm asus via chipset skt 949

    Don't know if you will see this post as your is over one month old, but I had the exact same problem with an 80Gb Maxtor DiamondMax10 SATAII drive iin a build for work and the solution was found on the VIA forum, as it transpires the Southbridge chipset can't cope with faster SATAII speeds and you need to move the jumper on teh back of the hard drive to reduce the rate to 150 (SATA I speed).

    Instructions are on Knowledge base article on Maxtor website, but basically the jumper at standard is covering the two right hand pins and needs to be moved to cover the two left hand pins.

    I did this and bingo all is now fine.

    i have jumpered my western digital hdd to 150MBS and system is realy stable so it is a problem with southbridge on this model of mobo

    Interesting. Thanks for posting that. Up to now all the systems I had seen had been able to adjust themselves.
