I have no affiliation with the site or survey but the online magazine they do is good and the salary survey I find interesting as is based on real responses from people doing certification. Like all surveys not perfect but interesting to see what tops the list, the top 10 looks very security focused.

    http://certmag.com/salary-survey-2016-new-salary-survey-75/

Also looks like Microsoft has really fallen out of flavour when it comes to certification\salary.

What do people think of the list?

Are those really what people are earning in the states. Right i am packing my bags. That's silly money for basically a few months of reading and labbing. Looks like shaving cats for a living will have to wait.

They seem a little high but I see quite a few security jobs in the $150K range although currency changes makes it less in pounds.

I would take the wages with a pinch of salt and more focus on the area of certification for example CCSK is number one,I have that cert to study it you use two free PDF's then take an unproctored exam and it is not that difficult plus get two attempts but I expect what puts it at the top is the people that got it work in cloud security or cloud architecture which are in demand and paying well.

    Certifications: A few.

Why would a Chekpoint Sec Admin earn so much more than a Checkpoint Sec Expert? And how does a CCNA Wireless count for more dosh than RHCE?
This survey makes FDP frowny and suspicious ¬_¬

These surveys are commissioned by people with a vested interest to sell more certifications.

As such they ignore peoples skills and industry demand. Basically they ignore economics and talent, and look solely at certification which is INSANE !

I make $160k pa, my first cert on the list comes in at position 56, and it took me two weeks part time study to pass. According to them two weeks study nets you $120k pa.

Decent senior developer jobs in the US pay around $180k pa, not bad, just you have to let people shoot at you.

Its irrelevant nonsense, compiled by people without a clue of the IT industry, how the real world works, how to conduct a survey, how to apply statistics, put it in the bin where it belongs.

I'm sure you're right Dave. Ultimately pushing certs, cert pushers if you will :)

Obviously people with expert certs also have low level certs. Hence ITIL foundation owners earn more than VCP's :) For this to make (some) sense the certs possessed should be weighted.

The VCP people will pull up the average for ITIL, or maybe they just took the 'Top' cert from each person surveyed ? That is the point we don't know their methodology, and its highly likely to be flawed in multiple areas.

Much of this is called confounding in stats.

The first thing anybody says about stats is "Correlation does not imply causation", this is the classic mistake they want to trick you into making. That obtaining a cert leads to a better career. The simple fact that you are consider studying for a cert is likely to mean you are hardworking, studious, intelligent, inquisitive, and a bunch of other positive traits, which already mean you are a person who will have a more successful career on average.

Reading cert-forums instead of watching hollyoaks has already split you from the pack.

Good work on your own business @Wilki0903. Your example justs goes to show what you can achieve with your own business. Would you not go back to that? I try to turn my IT money into other forms of money. Latest ambition is to own a pizza place. Don't ask me why
