    Dear Candidate,

Thank you for contacting CompTIA. Below is information for our A+ Certification. After visiting our website and the various links provided below, you should have a better understanding of our A+ Certification. As always, if you should have any additional questions and concerns, please feel free to contact us.

The 2009 objectives and corresponding (two) exams, 220-701 and 220-702, were released August 7, 2009.

The exams, 220-601 through 220-604, remain relevant and are in use by organizations and educational institutions throughout the world. These exams will remain in the market until February 28, 2010*, to allow all who are training or studying with current materials to complete their course of study. *The A+ 600 series retires in the UK and Australia/New Zealand on August 31, 2010, A+ JK0-601, 602, 603, 604 - all languages- August 31, 2010, A+ 220-601, 602, 603, 604, 611, 612 all translations – August 31, 2010

Both the 2006 & 2009 objectives and exams will run concurrent until the 2006 is retired on the February 29, 2010 date.

There will be a bridge exam for candidates who certified both exams with the 2006 objectives. Earlier certifications and previous updates will not qualify for the A+ bridge exam.

For the CompTIA A+ certified professionals who are encouraged or required by their employers to remain current with their certification objectives can: Take the CompTIA A+ 2009 Edition (two exams) or take the bridge exam- HOWEVER- Only those who are certified in the most recent version of CompTIA A+ (2006 objectives) by taking 220-601 and one of the following: 220-602, 220-603 and 220-604 exams are eligible to update their currency through taking the CompTIA A+ bridge exam (one exam), which covers the new objectives. If you are NOT fully certified in the 2006 objective, you cannot ‘bridge’.

They've changed the date a couple times already, so take the date with a grain of salt. Count on Feb 28, and treat August 31 as a gift if it comes.

    I'd agree with BM here.

I'd advise anyone currently on the 600 track to continue on it (notice even CompTIA say you should only upgrade if your employer encourages/requires you to. Soundian says only if they are paying for the exam).
Anyone thinking about starting now should go for the 700 series, just to be on the safe side.

On a side note I got an email yesterday form CompTIA extolling the virtues of the Security+. Bad CompTIA, spamming my inbox.
