Existing Members have a nomination scheme so that they can recommend potential new Members.

I'm quite happy to consider this for anyone at Certforums as long as you can demonstrate :

    a) you work or have worked in IT

    b) you are professional in your outlook i.e. willing to adhere to BCS Code of Conduct and Good Practice

    c) I have some means of checking your background i.e. LinkedIn profile or MS transcript etc.

Just drop me a PM if you're interested - doesn't matter where in the country you are (or even overseas)

You know... I was going to use you as a reference when I filled my app out yesterday but put down my boss instead.

Are there any benefits to using an existing BCS member as opposed to your current employer? (for example)

For the reference part it has to be someone that can confirm your work experience. If it's a choice between two people that can confirm that then the BCS Member would carry a little more "weight" maybe.

I'm not offering to be a referee as I can't vouch for most people's work experience. What I can do is nominate someone as being suitable for membership based on the bits I do know about them.

The guidance from the BCS to existing Members says :

    Trusted Source Scheme
Chartered members can nominate colleagues with 5 or more years IT experience for professional membership under the fast track processing scheme.

    Recommendation Scheme
All BCS members can recommend suitable candidates for professional membership.
