    Depends on the testing software.

And the most common symptom is that the CPU won't start. In which case software isn't much use! :biggrin

Hey, also there you can Benchmark not but test CPU's at games, softwares, archiveing tools and others.

That's not really very accurate Sequeler. There are plenty of utilities and tools out their which aim to stress test the processor in a system and test the consistency of the results rather than just show how fast they are. Orthos is a good example of this and also quite a popular tool.

I like the Merisian Prime torture test from the UBCD. Tends to isolate flaky CPUs.

Do you actually have a computer where you suspect there's a bad CPU or motherboard? Or are you just fishing for answers to general questions?

I have heard that cyclic redendancy is often a tell tale sign...

anyone here heard the same thing?

I don't see what CRCs have to do with this. In what way would it be a 'tell tale sign'?

I've never come across a CRC failure caused by a failing CPU!

Well... if you insist on ignoring my question, I'm going to assume we're doing your homework for you.

EDIT: Sorry - I missed the subtitle... next time, you might want to type your response directly in the post itself. :)
