Hi all, does anyone know anyone who has experience of the ISP Redten?

They are offering an 8Mbps connection for £20 p/m with a free semi-decent PC and upgrade to Vista and 24Mbps when either are available. The two biggest downsides to it are that it's a 3 year contract and there is a £50 set up fee.

I'm perfectly happy with my current ISP and I'm paying the same for a connection that will be upgraded to 8Mbps at the end of the month. As there isn't much chatter on the net about Redten, I'm reluctant to change to a potentially worse provider and lose £50 in the process. Of course, the PC is a the main selling point of the deal but I'd rather do without than experience a nightmare on a par with all the new TalkTalk and Sky free broadband customers.

Anyone?

Baba,

Never heard of them until now.
Can only assume, they want to build a huge customer database possibly to sell?
Good deal, even with the three years tie in if you ask me.
Be interested to see what you are charged if you <pull out> in this time :D

Be very careful Baba - don't sign anything until you've read all the conditions and the FAQ bit.

Remember nothing is for free.

Hmmm Interesting :-

Will I be able to cancel my contract?

Yes, you will. You'll have two options. The first option, which is open to you at any time during your time with Redten, is to return your LG Redten PC and pay an admin and restocking charge of £150. The second is to cancel your contract at any stage by paying a cancellation charge to cover the residual value of the PC, which you'll then be able to keep. If you cancel within the first 12 months of your three-year contract this charge will be £500; between 12 months and 24 months, it will be £400; and between 24 months and 36 months, it will be £250. The cancellation notice period is 6 weeks.

Thanks UCM, that's exactly my feeling. I already called to see if they would waive the connection fee as I already have a perfectly serviceable ADSL2 modem, his response was that the £50 was to cover admin costs even though the website states its a "connection and modem fee".

TBH, as I said, I'm currently with Demon and thoroughly happy with them. They have a very useful online customer chat service so there is no waiting on hold to speak to someone in Bangalore who you can't understand and I don't really need the PC so I'll give it a miss for a bit.

Thanks for the links.:D

LOL, reminds me of the last line in an A-Team episode (either the last ever ep or the pilot, not sure which). BA says to Murdoch "Think again crazy man, looks like Hannibal's on the jazz again!". Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Sorry way of topic, but I am on the jazz!:D
