It's not about the RAM it's how the chipset is optimised for use with the application. Obviously the RAM does play a part but a card that is optimised and certified for use with CAD packages will perform better than a card that is "standard" which usually means optimised for gaming. CAD requirments are different to gaming requirments, that's why you go for the specialist card.

Similarly, I wouldn't use one of the PNY cards (from the Professional Series) in a gaming machine - I may well be disappointed with the performance.

If in any doubt, just contact the PNY people. They really do know their stuff when it comes to CAD and the like.

To quote from one of the pages I provided a link to :

"Not only does Autodesk certify and recommend Quadro for use with AutoCAD software, but many of AutoCAD software's advanced features won't run optimally without a professional-class GPU like Quadro."

The thing is - you have to really try so hard to better Ken's advice ! :p

All jesting aside, I spent a good couple of weeks researching for my fussy customer. Never had one performance complaint and they were only using stuff just above entry level, not mega bucks stuff.
