To start I know nothing about programming or scripting but I've been doing the organisational logon scripts for work in Active Directory and they are working like a dream. I used an application to write them in vbs which I think is visual basic. Looking at the script I can't tell what is what and really fancy learning the basics of VBS. I have a few questions.

    1) I've looked at vbs and keep coming across visual basic.net and vbs 6 are these the same as vbs for scripting?

    2) Where is a good place to start any good books, applications or websites to learn about vbs logon scripting or if I buy a visual basic book will it teach me how to write logon scripts?

Sorry these questions are pretty dumb but I've never programmed in my life and just looking at the scripts I created I think it would be handy to learn a bit of VBS. I would really like to buy a book to learn from but aint got a clue what I'm looking for to be honest.

    Cheers in Advance

    Michael

    Hi Michael

They aren't dumb questions at all

    1) To be honest I'm not sure I've never used VB or VB.net, I played with Delphi rather than VB when teaching myself to program.

    2) A great place to start is Microsofts own Script Center, the have all sorts from potted scripts to tutorials, you can find it here

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/default.mspx

Microsoft also have their W2k Scripting guide online, which is an MSpress book and normally quite pricey, you can find it here

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/guide/default.mspx

The books I used to teach myself vbscript were the wrox ASP books though I don't know if they're still going.
