I want to install Xubuntu on an old computer (running Me and riddled with malware) but I can't get it to boot from the disk.

I downloaded the OS and burned it to a cd and I changed the BIOS to boot from the cd but all I get is 'boot from atapi - failure (or something similar)' and the system just boots to Me.

Will it boot using the hard disk when you take the CD out of the CD drive?

Is the CD first in the boot sequence?

Is the CD bootable? Just putting an OS on a CD doesn't necessarily make that CD bootable. Not sure about Xubuntu; Trip or Freddy will know though...

You probably want to read the documentation on your CD burner software to see what you have to do to make a bootable ISO image. Giddy is right. Just burning the image to a CD doesn't make it bootable. Depending on the kind of software you are using, you may have to set your configuration up in a particular way.

Yep, sounds like you might need to burn another image.

Here's a great utility thats free!
