The set up at my place at the moment is that we have our print server set up on the DC (not so good, I know). We are changing this and have set up another print servwer that is a member of the domain and also set up some shared printers on it too.

The problem is that the new printers are not showing up in the directory when we go to add a new printer to a pc.

The printers that are set up on the DC all show up in the directory without any problems but not any of the new ones.

Anyone had the same or similar problem?

    Try the following matey:-
    • Have you checked that the "Show in AD" (or whatever it's called, possibly List in Directory) is ticked for the printer shares?
    • Can you ping the printers from the PCs via a command prompt?
    • Are the printers in the correct OU inside AD? (If they're not then users won't be able to find/add it)

    Let us know nugget :)

Dont forget the location details may or may not be a factor depending on how large your network is.

Thanks for the replies guys. Got it sorted now.

The printers were set up with list in the directory checkbox checked. The IP addresses are all good as are the names. There are also no OUs for printers and as far as I know you can't put them in any.

It seems that in some rare cases the print spooler does not pick up that there are printers installed. Just a quick restart of the spooler and all is okay. Didn't really think of this immediately as they function properly when you navigate to the respective print server, just couldn't find them in the directory list.
