I do have a copy of vista yes, by doing a repair of windows would i lose any files or programs?
Im looking through the system log now...
There are a few errors in Http Event
A few errors in windows update client.
    5 warnings in Tcpip
    A warning in time-service
    A warning in user32.

Is any of that anything to worry about?

No you wont lose any files or programs but perhaps backup any important files before you do this. If you boot from the Vista disk you will get the option to the repair the computer.

After that perhaps install service pack 2?

These are the instructions given to use this program..

    1) Download Cleanspl.zip from link below: (<http://www.box.net/public/e5s70dctj8>;)

    2) Extract the zip file, you will see Cleanspl.exe and PRINT_DEFAULT.reg

    3) Run the Cleanspl.exe and click "Clean Spooler" and click Yes to Start.

    4) Click Yes on each notification and restart your computer.

    5) When computer boots up, the print sub-system will be cleaned-up.

    6) Double click PRINT_DEFAULT.reg to restore default Printer Monitor.

    7) Restart the server

so i should click yes or no to the notifications?
This seems to be aimed at a server, does that matter?

it works fine on Win7 RC1 in "Windows XP sp2 mode"

Also before running it, create a restore point just incase it doesn't go to plan then you can restore it back, I've tried it on WinXP and Win7 both work as expected but vista might be a little diffrent so the restore point will cover your ****

Did you have another printer on the system such as a lexmark?

Some drivers change the spoolers RPCSS (Remote Procedure Call Services) dependency and don't return it when uninstalled.

    Code:
    net stop spooler

    sc config spooler depend= RPCSS

    net start spooler

    ... that wasn't the point!

doesn't matter there was a cannon driver installed in the past you mentioned that ...... did you still try it? (it will not harm the system!!)

that's how i solved the same problem (same error and cannon) on a clients vista pc anyway!!

(just because it RPC dosnt mean its network only either)

its either that or a problem with the print processor (ie winprint)

thats what i would i put my money on.

Mr cheeks, yes it might have been quicker but i havnt come across this problem before and would like to be able to sort it out without just repairing windows :biggrin

Thomasmc, i have tried to run the prog and it came back with the following message...

"The spooler on this computer cannot be cleaned because it is running version 6.0 of windows NT. Only windows NT versions 4.0 and 5.0 are supported"

AndiC, I dont understand what you want me to try?

Ok i have just tried something else,
I followed the instructions from the following web page...

    http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm

On step 13 when i try to delete all of the files and sub-folders it leaves to files which it wont allow me to delete..

    WrtMon.exe
    WrtProc.exe

It says i need permission to perform this action, i dont know who from as i am the administrator??
