Attention all fellow studiers, I got an email from Prep Logic saying you can download their question set for 291 and get a free voucher for an exam for $120.

I bought the software after doing the trial and thinking these questions are really good and I was getting the free voucher all for £60 (£22 cheaper than a single exam)

    1) The software doesn't work

    2) The voucher is only valid in the US and Canada and this is only mentioned in very small link for details

    3) My emails have not been replied to

    Shame on you Prep Logic

I get those spam emails from them as well. And that's exactly where they go, in the Spam box. That sucks dude, hopefully they will give you a refund.

    1) If the software doesn't work contact tech support
    2) In all fairness you failed to read the small print
    3) How long ago did you send the emails?

I also get the spam mails, but you obviously did not notice that the spam mail was intended for US citizens because its priced in dollars (thats mean you are buying the US version) and therefore you have bought a voucher that can't be used in the UK.

You need to purchase international vouchers for the UK.

As John said if the software does not work then contact the tech support team.

This is why you always read the small print. That isn't their fault that you didn't. However, the software not working really suxs. Trun the company into the american bbb. I would send them an email with the software not working and no reponse from the company for help to fix it. BBB will put the complaint up on their website plus they will look into it too.

You will need to give this information to BBB so they can help you better. Good Luck.

    As said

    1) software not working - try to fix it, or get techsupport to fix it for you.
    2) small print >> how small is small print ? end of page twenty nine out of thirty three ?
    3) not many tech support departments will reply to your emails - for this I would use phone.

Yes, small print is legally binding (or something to that effect). On the other hand, how many people actually do read small print. Mostly people do glance over them, but to read every single one ?

Actually it is at the bottom of the emails. Or the ones that I have gotten are. I don't see why the others one would be different.

Whether you read the small print or not, thats your problem, not theirs. same with the EULA's on software. They are legally required to produce their terms and conditions and make them available to you. That you choose not to is the fault of no-one but yourself.

Do I always read the small-print/EULA? No. But I do so in the knowledge that if I get bitten by one of those pesky articles, I have no-one to blame but myself, and take it on the chin. Might not like what it says, but I cant argue to it. Besides, most of the time you have to tick a box saying you read, understand, and agree to the terms and conditions.

As for buying a product that is only applicable in the US, thats not PL's fault, you should have double checked. You can, of course, get some money back from the vouchers if PL are not willing to offer a refund (Which they are well within their rights to do). I might point out that they are unlikely to offer a refund simply because the vouchers arent valid for you. You said the vouchers were free, so they are a gift from the company, not the product you are buying. But if you decide you would like some money back from it, im sure you can find someone on these forums who would be willing to pay some money to buy the vouchers off you.

As for the software. You say it doesnt work. Perhaps if you give us details, we can help you get it working. Tech support for these companies can tend to be quite large, and emails are almost always at a lower priority than telephone calls. They will likely respond, but it will take them a while.

    Fergal, I agree.
Whenever you click 'I agree' or sign on the dotted line you accept all conditions as set by vendor / provider / other party.
Thoroughness of reading EULA/Agreement is , for me, directly proportional to importance / amount of money spent on particular product or service. In a nutshell, if I'm buying property I'll comb over every little detail of the agreement. On the other hand if I need to click on 'I agree' for that piece of shareware that I just bought I'll just click it without actually reading it.
Point was if the company hides something so essential as validity of exam for certain locations on page twenty nine, then I consider that as bad business practice. If not, just get another voucher appropriate for location.

I understand that its my fault for not reading the t's and c's and I have waited 48hrs and got nadda so I thought name and shame. I'd be annoyed about the voucher but as someone says sell it, thats fair enough but I still want to be able to do my questions because no matter how rubbish the whole situation is the questions are actually pretty good.

I am sure it is because I run I.E7. I checked their site and it says that the cause is because

Get a run-time error when trying to install PrepLogic software. What do I do?

PrepLogic uses InstallShield, the industry standard for software installation, to install the necessary files on your computer. You may be running an application during installation that is using a file that InstallShield needs to update. Unfortunately, Windows will not allow this file to be updated (installed) while it is being used by another application and InstallShield must move on. When you try to run the software, it needs this updated file but it was never installed and you receive this run-time error.

Solution: Uninstall PrepLogic from your computer. Close all open applications and reboot your computer. Before opening any additional programs, install PrepLogic. You should be able to run PrepLogic now. Please Contact Us if you still can not install the software. Please allow up to 48 hours for response.

The error I get is when it installs dotnet it then does a file called DotNet.isc this is when I get the crash. I have followed all of the other instructions.

Thanks for all the replys chaps

Even if the software worked, which it probably does not since it is encoded for North America, it would be a ripoff, since PrepLogic came late to the test prep party, did not get well known Subject Matter Experts, and they are just not in the same league as the established test prep companies like Transcender (before they were bought out), Boson, and MeasureUp.

I live within spitting distance of their offices. Want me to go and spit?:p

you might want to download and install dotnet separately from the application first. To to the MS website and download the installer for whatever version of the .Net framework it uses, and install that. then try to install the software again.

Also, if that doesnt work, you could try installing it in safe mode. a little extreme just to get the software to work, but it will minimise the files that are locked.

Thats pretty good, especially considering they probably didnt need to do that. So once you get the software running, you are sorted! :biggrin

I always thought prep-logic seemed fairly good. They do some audio products that I have 'nearly' bought a couple of times but decided against. Sounded like a good idea to listen to that kind of thing on my daily commute just before an exam.

Maybe one of those would be a good use of the voucher.

Can you edit the title of this thread (any mod's) hardly seems fair now. :)

Trying not to sound too harsh, but hopefully you'll read the T&C's next time you buy.

I've used Preplogic several times and have had no problems with them, in fact I have to say that I like their customer support. I had an issue with them once (on one of their products) and they actually rang me back and got it sorted.

I was disappointed when they stopped selling international vouchers, but that beyond their control.

I agree with Ken read the T&Cs next time I have both preplogic and Transcender practice exams and have had no problem with either.
