    Hi all,

Do I need to memorize all the various post codes for the exam ? A lot of practice tests seem to have questions like

    "What does error 606 mean"

THe only thing in the Meyer's book is a list of beep codes. Where can I finda numerical list ?

    Thanks again,

    Martin

I can't remember coming across any questions on post codes or beeps to be honest. Also codes and beeps differ from motherboard to motherboard I don't think there is a standardised set of codes though someone may prove me wrong on this.

Found this for error codes during start up

The general errors and the corresponding failures are shown below:

    100-199 : System board failures

    200-299 : Memory failures

    300-399 : Key board failures

    400-499 : Monochrome video problems

    500-599 : Color video problems

    600-699 : Floppy disk errors

    1700-1799: Hard disk problems

Hope it is of some help

You get different beep codes for the same events depending on what BIOS you have. I found this handy page that might be interesting:

    http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

EDIT: One of the IBM BIOS codes. Gav is psychic. :P

No Beeps No Power, Loose Card, or Short.

Lol - wish the questions on the A+ would be so easy....

    Q1 :

Your computer won't turn on. Which of these is a possible cause :

    1) Small aliens inside the machine.

    2) You don't have a computer.

    3) There is a power cut

    4) Your fingers are too fat too push the on switch.

I'd pass everytime ! :biggrin :smilescol
