The MS Press book states portables do not support dynamic disks. Is this still the case?

The thing is, what would be the point? Dynamic disks don't offer any advantage over Basic disks in single disk set ups (which, AFAIK, all portables are).

One thing I'm not sure of, how does Windows know if it's installed on a portable or a desktop?

Well anyone setting up a spanned or striped volume across a USB/FireWire drive is asking for trouble anyway.

I have an HP Pavilion dv8000z that has dual 80 gig hard drives in it. Almost all of the Pavilions in the same model range have dual hard drives with some having dual 120 gig hard drives.
