Reports of my demise are grossly exaggerated !

I had lousy lousy web access where I now work and it took till Friday for a web marshall upgrade to bring it back to acceptable limits - plus my PCs are still in England... 2 weeks to go to collect the wife and the PC.. (hmm.. which do I miss most *G*)

so .. here I am again ! like a bad penny...

    cheers forlks :D

Baba, yup, still in Ireland... different lifestyle... I loaf into work around 9 - with a 20min walk to work instead of 100 minutes on the train! Shuffle off about 5.30 and home for supper before heading out for some free live music in the many drinking emporiums of this fine city!

Excellent. No one really appreciates how different it is working in Europe until they experience it. Work to live, not live to work like it is here in the UK.

When you say "UK", are you referring to "England" or actually UK as a whole, Eng, Ire, Scot and NI?'

Well I've never worked in NI or Scotland, but basically yes, I meant all of the UK. To anticipate any confusion you might be experiencing, Ireland is not in the UK (they get very upset if you make that mistake).

Baba, it's not all roses over here.. plenty of people work damn long hours... I'm just lucky at the moment...

I met a guy I knew from back home recently. He lives in Ennis, Clare and works in Cork city. Takes 2.5 hours each way to commute... madness....he's giving it up though.. surprise surprise..

Thing is, you can have the lifestyle, but less money, or make the money, and have no life.. it's damn hard to make both, and dead easy to have neither!

It all depends on what lifestyle you're after. Take my monthly outgoings. Most of it is crap that I could perfectly happily live without - TV licence, Sky subscription, broadband (OK, maybe I couldn't live without that), mobile phone etc. Some of the happiest times in my life were when I didn't have any of those things and I was living in a tent. The thing is, that tent was in an alpine valley and although I worked in the mornings and evenings for an absolute pittance, the job I was doing was great and I had my afternoons off to go rock-climbing, white-water rafting or whatever I felt like doing. That's the kind of lifestyle I'd take over any kind of money.
