Just passed Security+ today with a score of 804 out of 900 so I'm pretty chuffed.

It's good to get back into the cert rat race again...:D

    Cheers all...:D

If I'm honest I don't like CompTIA exams as they are overpriced and sometimes poorly written. The exam itself wasn't too bad and I think I was lucky with the selection of questions I got. I got no questions on US law which I was thankfull about as that would of really peeved me off. There was a lot of questions on VPN's, Encryption, ports which was what I expected. There was 100 questions and 1:30 hours to do them in.

Good work Slypie, you da man 8)

Blimey 100 questions in 90 minutes, less than a minute a question. I guess they were not long winded questions then?

Yeah I got a bit of a shock when I saw the amount of questions and the time to do them in. The questions were short and TBH I finished within 45 minutes which is a suprise for me because I'm usually there for the duration.

Overall I still think CompTIA exams are way over priced and I hope people who are studying this don't take it the wrong way but I think the Security+ exam is a bit of a novelty.

I've passed 70-270 so I'm going to do 70-290 then 70-291 to finish off my MCSA. I'm not sure if I'll go on and do the MCSE due to Microsoft changing the certs structure. I'll have to look into whether it's worth it.

I used Security+ all in one book found here. There isn't a great deal of good material of this exam from what I could see and this book seemed to be the highest rated from reviews etc. The book was pretty good and well laid out but I wouldn't say it covered all the info needed. Your best friend on the exam is here and google + a book.

    Hey man,

    congratilations of passing the exam.

I'm interesting at pursuing a career in computer security. I already have SCJP, SCWCD from Sun microsystems, but I wanna go for Security+.

Cause I'm a complete newbie for security certifications, I have a couple of questions :-

    1. Is Security+ suitable for starting point in my attempt to start a career in this branch of IT ?

    2. What are the options, besides Security+?

    3. Do you have any ideas, that Prometric vouchers are available worldwide?

    4. What is your oppinion : Should I repaint the ceiling?! :p

    Thanks in advance.

Hey slypie, if you choose not to reply, you can bite my shiny metal ass!! :p

You can bite mine too :D

    1) Yes Security+ is a good place to start for security certs as it's entry level

    2) MCSA Security (Is a specialist cert route for MCSA)
MCSE Security (Same as MCSA but for MCSE)
CISSP (Test and Labs based designed for very experienced security pros from what I gather)

3)yes discount vouchers are available from getcertified4less for prometric test sites across the world

    4) depends what colour it is I like blue myself...:biggrin
