well I passed my 272, so I'm now an MCDST! Hooray...

Not sure what to do next - was gonna go for A+, to have a change from the Microsoft stuff, but seeing as they have just announced XP will no longer be supported, I might take a look at Vista, as the guy a few threads down is doing, and do the 620 (or is that 260)... what's everyones' opinions?

    Congratulations on the pass.

In relation to your next exam, you already have the 70-270, which means you are half way towards an MCSA.

Therefore, you might want to consider doing the 70-290 & 70-291 and you will get your MCSA.

    Hope this helps.

Hadn't considered doing the MCSA exams yet, as I have seen mentioned on here a few times if you end up with loads of certs before you even get a job in IT, you may seem over qualified - I don't work in IT at the moment, but I am trying to get my foot in the door, so I thought working towards the A+ would show some hardware experience aswell as the admin/support certs I've already done... I also was interested in working towards some Vista certs, as it will become the dominant OS in the next few years no doubt... what Vista certs are available?

I'm currently working on the 70-620 which is a Configuring Windows Vista Client. A list of the Vista exams can be found here:

Having just looked, can I ask why you have chosen the 620, as opposed to the 621, which from what I can see upgrades your MCDST to MCITP and MCTS? (I think) - It doesn't appear to be in that list though, for some reason...

    Edit:

    this one : http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exams/70-621.mspx

Would this mean I no longer had an MCDST, and it would be replaced by MCITP, etc?

No; you would hold both certifications.

    Congrats!

I read a few threads on this and people where stating you need to read the 70-620 and 70-622 books to take on the 70-621 exam.

I'm working towards an MCSA and 70-620 is a requirement at my place of work. Therefore, I thought I would go for the 70-620 and take the least line of resistance :)

    Congrats!
As a person who's not currently in the field of IT, how did you find the 270, 271 and 272?

Methodman - I did the 70-270 first, and I found this the hardest of the 3, not sure if this is because it was the first exam I had done, but it seemed to be a bit more advanced... as it is part of the MCSA/MCSE, it is aimed more towards system administrators, whereas MCDST is support so in the 271 and 272 a lot of the explanations would be "pass to an admin" whereas in the 270 you need to know the answers - so in this respect, 270 probably prepared me better for the next two - 272 was pretty easy aswell, mostly based around internet explorer, outlook and other office applications...

Craigie - Fair play :D hopefully your path will find you the same success as I hope to achieve... I will probably get books for 620 and 622 and take the 621 soon (assuming my poor old laptop can handle Vista!)
