I found this story on CNN. I've heard of this concept before in larger cities in China but not in Europe (and certainly not in America). I don't think it would work in every city but those that have a well developed rail system like London or New York would be candidates. San Francisco has both BART and a light rail and both Portland and Seattle have light rail systems, so they would be American cities that could benefit from this plan. What do you think? Here's the story.

I think it's *perfectly* appropriate to think about running over Paris on a bike.

I'd love to see an idea like this take off in London
Unfortunately London is not very bike friendly at the moment, such a shame as its a great city to get around on bike if you can avoid the maniacs in the cars

Thank you! Finally! Someone is taking this thread seriously.

I've never been to London but it sounds like Paris was in the same sort of shape until its mayor decided to get "lean and green" and make some big changes.

It'd be great if london was more bike friendly. Always find Cambridge really "refreshing" for the bikes there - loads of people have taken to it there, and it makes getting around more pleasant for cyclists and walkers alike.

While i'd agree that the idea of making somewhere liek London and Paris biker friendly is great (would keep us fit and be healthy to the environment), I find Cyclists a pain in the rear end!

Theres a few cycle lanes in my local town. However they are always empty. The cyclist ride on the pavement, getting in the way of pedestrians and mothers with Baby buggies tend to have collisons with them. They speed round blind corners on the path and knock ya flying! (the cyclists not mothers with babies!)
And when thier not on the paths thier on the road, 2 or 3 abreast goind 20mph in a 40 zone causing tail backs etc.

I often make a habit of getting in the way of pavement cyclists
    bloody goons

and I HATE the pratts that drive through red lights like the rules dont apply to them
once I had a cyclist behind me whining to high heaven because.. get this
i STOPPED at a RED LIGHT i mean OMG thats totally careless of me

seemed to shut up when he sure the hate in my eyes hehe
