I decided to download the demo for Overlord however when I select the launch Icon I get a message saying Overlord needs to close due to a problem.

I have contacted code masters to get help from them and they said I should run DXDIAG and send them the results I also sent them a copy of my event viewer log.

They replied and said can I download the new drivers for my graphics card which I did

Although my card is an 8600gt and not on the supported list codemasters have said that it should be ok as the 8800 is supported.

I have just sent them an email to ask them if its actual fault with the the demo and the full game will work

Anyone have any suggestions or comments?

No no-one has the same card as me.

I asked codemasters if it would work om my system as I couldnt see it on the supported cards list and they said it should be ok.

Also when I look at the 3d settings for my card theres a list of games in the 3d settings list and overlord is in there so I am a bit lost to what the problem is.

I have heard of games where there are demos that just dont work and should. So I am just wondering if its one of those and I should just buy the game

    Yeah its a dilema.

The first game thats on-line and you can be evil in it and it might not work on my computer.

I try and blag my computer games shop friend and ask him if I buy and it doesn't work can I bring it back

I just dont understand why the demo doesn't work as codemasters think it will but havent tested it on my card

reviews indicate that the level of evil isnt very high to be honest. Its a PG-13 (or is it a T or whatever the system is in the US - at any rate its classified for teens).

I played the demo and wasnt overly impressed to be honest. The first few quests you do are helping others. wtf? you are supposed to be evil and you cant even decide if you do it or not.

its alright, but not nearly as dark as it could have been. have to agree with the critics on this one.

my monitor only goes to 1024 x 768 the demo does not run in this res only lower ones but i cant see anything any suggestions?

does this mean the demo is only set for lower resolutions and cant be changed? So the game will work ?

What OS are you using to play the game? I hope its not vista as I heard there a lot of games that have trouble running on vista.

Here are some things to consider:

    1. A 'demo' represents work in progress, it does not represent a piece of the finished game. This means that you cannot judge accurately if the purchased game will work on your system.

    2. If your card is not on the supported chipsets list, this means that the behaviour of the game is unlikely to be stable with a variety of symtoms making it unsutable for that chipset, and crashing to desktop is one of them.

Don't buy a game that your system cannot support.

So why are you asking if it will work, then?
