    Hi All,

My wife's friend is running XP and OE6. She is reporting the following error:

Error occurred - memory access violation in module kernel 32 at 9839 - 93135152

She can still manage to get it to run, though - just keeps getting the error.

My initial thought is to run a repair installation using Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components. I've used this in the past for a similar prob myself, although not on XP.

Any opinions ? Thanks in advance.

    :D

EDIT: It is an OEM version of XP that came ready-installed with the Dell machine she bought just last year, if that makes any difference ? I DO NOT like OEM installs

This is a virus Gav. I'm sure of it.

They have opened or read a hoax email from Microsoft ref: Security Update. Microsoft never send out patches.

    Go to http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe

    This will clean the PC.

You reckon, Si ? Interesting !

She was the first person I encountered being hit with Blaster back when it was new. I got her to patch it, but don't think I gave her Stinger.

I'll get her to try that, but you reckon it's more likely that than a broke OE ?

Cheers anyway - will report back .....

    :)

I could be wrong but I've seen this one before, ask if they have had an email similar to this:

    or this:

Is so and they ran the attachment they have more than likely got the W32/Swen Virus. It has a few variants such as W32/Gibe and is different to blaster so its a possibility.

Thanks, Si - I've sent on the screen-shots, together with the Stinger link.

Sounds plausible, but I'd still like to have her run a repair install. But I reckon between the two ideas, we'll crack this one.

    Cheers, Mate
