I'm just in a bit of grey area here (apartfrom it turning my hair that colour as well)

Data Link layer - responsible for error DETECTION - or error CORRECTION
Transport - ensures no data loss/duplication

i know they handle other stuff as well, but just in this respect there handling a similar function? Also at the network layer, you have the routing, so say its TCP - this is going to resend any packets that have been dropped, which i'm assuming its discoverd this through the error DETECTION in the data layer? or have i got this completely wrong?

ignore this, i've just realised my msitake - TCP's at the trasport layer - so thats where the request for re-sending comes from ....
