    Hi all

Not too sure where to put this. I'm after a bit of advice... Proposal for projects that we are bidding on can be anything up to around 50Mb and have to be sent out over the Internet (they are often completed close to the deadline).

Because 50Mb is quite a lot to be sending out through email, we generally set up an ftp username/password for each customer to download documents from. This is on our own FTP server hosted in house. The problem is, quite a few customers have either never used FTP before and get confused by it or their IT departments do not allow them to connect to FTP servers. Because of this, I would like to change this for something web based.

We want something that we can host on our own web servers (we wouldn't be happy using an hosted solution because of the sensitivity of the documents). It needs allow customers to go to a web site, enter a username and password and be presented with their documents. It needs to be locked down so that each customer can only see the documents uploaded for them to see. No customer should be able to see docs for other customers.

Does anyone know of something (ideally that would run on IIS) that would do what we want?

    thanks

    Dave

Hi Dave, I notice in your signature you have the MCTS Sharepoint Configuring. This should give you some starting area. It also depends on how much you want to spend. Sharepoint services will do most of what you want for free, if not all, or you could go the full sharepoint server way.

We are implementing a DMS very soon called Contract X from Symfact. It would also be able to do what you want.

Yep, took the MCTS Sharepoint exam not that long ago. We use it quite a lot internally and we've considered using Sharepoint for this but it's a bit overkill really. We do use it for our internal staff to store project documentation and have given customers access to the sites pertaining to their projects through our extranet. But for this application, we're talking about sharing maybe half a dozen files that won't change with a customer or supplier for a couple of months at a time.

We've had a suggestion that we could use http://www.sharefile.com/ as it is customisable, which might be an option, but we'd prefer a solution that we can host on our own servers.
