    Hi,

Recently noticed that when i save a doc (JPEG, txt, or doc) sometimes it doesn't go to the path i have told it to but stays in the "recent documents" under the start menu- even after you have opened it back up? :blink

I'm a little confused here, Boyce. The recent documents menu is just a series of shortcuts to the actual location of the doc. The shortcuts will stay there until eventually pushed out by more...well, recent docs. Whatever you saved should still be in its actual location.

Are you saying you save a doc like *boyce.doc* to:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Boyce\My Documents\boyce.doc

but then when you go looking for it, the doc hasn't been saved to that location...but you can still open it in Recent Documents?

Right click on the shortcut in the recent documents menu and see where its pointing too.

    Neall,

Thanks, when i do this it is blank. I can find the path using the search tool and is always where i asked it to save it! It just doesn't show the icon! This only happens now and again! :blink

Cant find anything remotely helpful, infact i cant even word it properly lol

You will have to narrow it down a bit.

What applications does it happen with... just office?

When you say it sometimes happens can you find a pattern at all?

Try saving it in a newly created folder on say the desktop and see if they keep disappearing the same way?

Certain types of viruses re-write the path of an infected doc so that you can't find it. You might want to run a virus and spyware scan. The other thing you could try is to use a restore point to return the computer to a state before the problem first started happening.
