Got the invite to download and use Office 2010 technical preview, there are two versions the 32-bit one and the 64-bit one. So far like the OS, if you're already using the 32-bit one, you can't upgrade to the 64-bit one. Just downloading the 32-bit one, then I'll write somemore :)

I have to say that while Word, Excel, Access, etc has had minor improvements. The app that has impressed me the most is Outlook. Up to now (the 2007 version) Outlook as relatively looked the same, in 2010 it looks very nice. It's finally got the updated look, imo.

Here's a mod'ed version (took out personal info, etc), if you look closely, e-mails now have a "conversion" history (see first e-mail).

It looks pretty nifty. I'm sure there will be more than one complaint about the ribbon-esque interface though.

But meh. I'd like to give it a go :)

    Thanks for the screenshot.

Damn I didnt get my invite yet lol

    Q1 2010 I heard

the exciting thing for me is the web based office, especially if there is a decent sync (read:mesh integration) so I can access files I was working on from anywhere

I imagine in the corporate world this would translate to a sharepoint scenario

save your draft in sharepoint, sharepoint has a globally accessible portion (for staff) that you can connect to from anywhere and use Web office!

Be nice to have Outlook updated with true ribbon features (in 2007 it had the ribbon, but it was really just a new toolbar, unlike in the Big three (W,E,PP)

    You prefer the ribbon?

I still can't get to grips with it.

One feature that I'm liking in outlook is the split conversations, it’s like a auto find related messages, it makes it so much easier to keep track :D

The Ribbon is probably the most innovative UI design I have seen from the MS office team for yonks
I actually use features I didnt know existed before because its just more logical

Jim and I discussed this over burritos a few weeks back ;)

Just like anything, it takes time to get used to, but overall, it works. I don't like how Word scrolls through the ribbons when my mouse is accidentally hovering over the ribbon area instead of scrolling the document text... but that's a relatively minor inconvenience that I can get past. The addition in functionality more than makes up for it.
