I'll give Michael's question an attempt also - is it because if NTFS was open to everyone, anyone on a local computer could access that "share". Share permissions only work over the network, while NTFS work over the network and on the local computer???

Actually, I was out all day with the kids... Breakfast, then Taekwondo at 9am, then a trip to Chuck E. Cheeses, then lunch, then a soccer game at 2pm, then some "alone time" mowing the grass, then dinner, then bathing the kids and putting them to bed. I arrived to 220-some-odd posts on here!

 

NTFS permissions are far more flexible than share permissions:
Basic permissions: Read / Write / Modify rather than Read / Change
Extended permissions do not have share equivalent

NTFS permissions inherit down a folder structure and can be amended at any level
Share permissions apply to the parent folder and all contents

NTFS permissions apply even if the folder is accessed locally
Share permissions apply only via a mapped drive letter/unc path

NTFS permissions can be modified through group policy
Share permissions cannot (except via a script)

Need I go on?

CECs is a pizza place and arcade for kids... though I almost hesitate to call the food they serve "pizza"...

 

Quieter than many. And all of it enjoyable.

Got off the computer and watched a movie with my wife, read a few pages of a book, and drifted off to sleep. Just got up a bit ago.

 

Even though I've never set foot in the US, I have heard of Chuck E Cheese
