Im not too sure how to go about a assignment , so im going to pick your brains people , if thats ok.

The assignment im doing is call ' internet and the loss of privacy' and ive got the 3rd sectino to cover on it, legislation.
Ok so ive got a copy of the RIPA act 2000, but i really cant think of what else to use. There is stuff about echelon or gchq, but these are not legislative, and i really need to stay on one path. Now my tutor says i need to have different sources so how can i use all that when the only one that matters it the actual act that is carved in stone and not just hearsay etc.

    Any ideas folks.???????

Does it really HAVE to be legislation?

    That's dull as dishwater.
The point with the whole interweb thing is that it is almost impossible to make legislation stick, so it's a really 'non' subject to write about.

There are loads more interesting privacy issues out there. P.M. Freddy and tell him you are using IE 5.0 and ask if he thinks it's a good idea.

    That'll give you your thesis...

This is a Uni course - so if they say legislation, they mean it! :biggrin

There are many other laws in the UK that have relevance to the Internet in some way.

    Distance selling regs
Extreme porn (just announced in the Queen's speech I think - so you should pick up bonus points for being current)
Underage porn - nasty subject, but very much a focus of media/police interest.

You could look into what constitutes 'evidence'. IIRC a signature on a FAX has legal significance, but one in an email doesn't.

Of course tied in with all this would be the Data Protection act.

That covers the storage of personal data on companies pc's and its use among other things. Its legislative and also about Privacy so should fit in with your assignment.

I know i've had to sign the Data protection act and the offical secrets act in my various roles, and both mention the internet and free use of information or not there of.

    Hi

If I was found fishing for answers to my Open University degree like this I'd have, at least, a warning at worst barred from any further study.
