Hi All. Thinking about starting a new life in IT, always have wanted to do it! I am thinking about starting obviously with A+, but will have to self study with Mike Meyers' books! One question though, do companies consider people who have studied at home in a lesser light as opposed to those who have undegone courses (wish I could but a bit skint at the moment!)? Have always tinkered with computers and built and "destroyed" them for several years, but looking forward to doing some real studying. Anyways, thanks people,

    Welcome to CF mate:biggrin

Well done for taking the self study route, use the search option above and type 'self study ' there's a useful thread about self study by Zimbo!

As for employers it depends who you are applying to!

Most look on self study in your own time as dedication to the IT industry! Rather than someone who has just come from Uni.

I suggest you look under the certs section A+ and employment on the CF forum.

Some questions you should ask yourself before going down this road mate and that is:-

1). Do you like playing the detective using your skills to find out what the problem is?

    Network Cert

2). Do you like helping people, talking to them either over the phone or face to face about software problems?

    MCDST

    3) Do you like fixing things or building things?

    PC support A+ Cert

    4) Do you like creating pictures, films or sound using software

    Website design

I think it's not enough to have it as a hobby!
You have to do some soul searching first otherwise you might end up down the wrong road!

    Good luck!:biggrin
